About Woodwind Lakes

A 1990s Lake Community off US 290

Woodwind Lakes has about 630 homes, built from roughly 1992 to 1998, laid out around lakes with jogging trails. Community Impact also lists a pavilion, a tennis court and a pool. Many streets carry music names, like Clarion Way, Rhythm Lane and Cadenza Court. Typical lots run around 8,000 square feet.

Homes here were built in the same few years, so their original wood fences have aged together. If a fence went in with the house and was never replaced, it’s 25 to 30 years old, and neighbors often end up replacing shared lines one after another.

Jurisdiction

Outside Houston and Jersey Village

Woodwind Lakes sits next to Jersey Village but isn’t in it, and it’s not inside the City of Houston either. Listing data shows its taxing entities as Harris County MUD 261 and the Windfern Forest Utility District, with no city. That puts fence permitting on the county side, so the Jersey Village permit office doesn’t come into it.

The rules that matter most day to day come from the homeowners association. Get the HOA’s fence and stain-color requirements before you pick a design, and we’ll build the drawing for the architectural review. Our permits by jurisdiction page covers the county side, and we confirm it for your address during the estimate.

Lake & Trail Lots

Fencing Along the Water and the Trails

Lots that back onto a lake or a trail have a choice to make. A solid privacy fence blocks the trail traffic but also the water view. An open fence keeps the view and still holds a dog in. We build both aluminum and steel ornamental fence. Aluminum won’t rust but can pit, and steel is heavier; our aluminum vs. steel guide compares them. Check with the HOA first, since lake-side rules can differ from the street-side ones.

Near the water, ground stays wet longer after storms. Posts set in soft soil are the ones that lean first, so we set posts at least 24 inches deep in 80 lb of concrete and go deeper where the soil or gate size calls for it.

Trees

Wooded Yards and Fence Lines

Community Impact called Woodwind Lakes a wooded community, and 30 years of growth means roots and trunks now sit right on many old fence lines. When we replace a fence, we can adjust post spacing around large roots and leave room for a trunk that has grown into the old line. Before any new install, we call Texas 811 so buried utilities are marked. Shaded boards tend to pick up mildew and algae; our guide on mold and mildew on wood fences covers cleaning and when to replace.

FAQ

Woodwind Lakes Fencing Questions

Do I need a City of Houston permit for a fence in Woodwind Lakes?
No, because the neighborhood isn’t inside the City of Houston. It’s in unincorporated Harris County with a utility district. HOA approval is the step most homeowners here need, and we confirm the county requirement for your address.
Can I put an iron-style fence on my lake side and wood on the rest?
Often, yes, and we build both. Ask the HOA to confirm the lake-side style it allows, and we’ll match heights and post spacing where the two meet.
Our whole street’s fences went in at the same time. Can neighbors share a crew?
Yes. We can quote each home separately, or break out the cost of a shared line between two neighbors.
