About The Woodlands

The Woodlands was founded in 1974 as a master-planned community and today has around 115,000–119,000 residents spread across Montgomery and Harris counties. It has never incorporated as its own city (residents voted against incorporation as recently as 2021) and is instead run as a special-purpose township with an elected board. That’s a big part of why fence rules here are set village by village rather than by one citywide ordinance: each of the eight official villages (Alden Bridge, Cochran’s Crossing, College Park, Creekside Park, Grogan’s Mill, Indian Springs, Panther Creek, and Sterling Ridge) has its own architectural review process.

Where We Actually Work

We install and repair fencing throughout The Woodlands: Panther Creek, Cochran’s Crossing, and Indian Springs on one side of town, Alden Bridge, Sterling Ridge, and the Village of Carlton Woods on the other, plus College Park and the area out toward Oak Ridge North and Harper’s Landing. If your village isn’t on this list, we probably still cover it, so just give us a call.

Yard Type & Rules

Nearly every village in The Woodlands has its own HOA or architectural review committee with its own rules on fence height, material, and color. Honestly, this is the strictest HOA review area we work in, so plan on getting approval before anything goes in the ground, and we can help with that paperwork.

Materials Common Here

Cedar and wood privacy fencing is the default look in most villages here. It matches what your neighbors already have and tends to clear architectural review more easily.

Aluminum fencing and Steel fencing are common too, especially around pools, since it meets pool code and gives you an open view instead of a solid wall. Vinyl is allowed in some villages but not others, so confirm approved colors and styles with your HOA before you buy anything. Chain link generally isn’t accepted for street-facing yards in The Woodlands, so we don’t recommend it here.

Permits

Woodlands villages typically require architectural review approval before you install or replace a fence, on top of anything the city or county requires. We’ll tell you exactly what applies to your property during the estimate rather than guessing over the phone.
